A new Chrome Web Store publisher gets two extension slots

· Gallera Studio

Since 20 August 2026 a new publisher in the Chrome Web Store can have two published extensions. A third one can be drafted, but it cannot be submitted for review until the limit is raised or another extension is unpublished. We hit the limit two weeks after opening the account, and this is what it looks like from the inside.

What the rule says

Google's documentation is short: “When you first create your publisher in the Chrome Web Store, you will be limited to a maximum of two published extensions.” Themes do not count. Publishers who already had more keep at least the number they had. The limit is individual and can grow, based on “the quality and usage of your published extensions”.

When you reach the limit, the dashboard shows a counter, “2/2 extension limit”, and a link to request an increase. The answer is automatic and usually instant. The documentation names two reasons for a refusal: your published extensions “need higher sustained engagement”, or the account “does not currently meet our tenure and activity requirements”.

What happened to us

The studio's publisher account was opened in mid-September 2026. Two extensions went live on 24 September. A week later a third one was ready, and the counter said 2/2. We asked for an increase and were refused on the spot: an account two weeks old with a handful of users has neither tenure nor engagement. Asking again a week later would not change either input, so we stopped asking.

What the documentation does not say

What we did

A slot is now a scarce resource, so each published extension has to earn it. We unpublished Nooman, our new-tab extension, and gave its slot to Image to Text OCR, which has search demand behind it. Nooman is docked, not scrapped: the code, the site and the listing draft stay where they are.
